I came across this blog, Grand Old Partisan, and found it to be moving.  This deals with the history of the GOP as the party of reform, particularly with regard to Civil Rights.

It is definitely worth a look.  It is also sad that the GOP has become tainted with racism, and it is up to all Americans to end this disgrace which still sadly exists in our nation.

  1. Isn’t it odd, that the party that pushed the civil rights movement in the 1870’s now seems to be the party associated with racism? That the “solid south” always voted for democrats, because they were against equal rights for blacks?

Isn’t it odd that the senator who served the longest in history, started as a staunch segregationist, hung more blacks than any other judge in the country, switched to the republican party and has one of the strongest civil rights records (if you want to point to his daughter, be sure to look at a time-line, not sure what impact she had on his feelings).

    All oddities
