300 Spartans – Where are They When you Need Them?

Filed under: Congress,Conservatives,Election '08,Entertainment,General,History,Iran,Politics — avoiceofreason @ 12:25 am

Last Row has a good post about this movie, and Iran’s reaction –

“The movie is an American plot against Iranian culture”.

Sorry , that sputtering was my choking at that last phrase.

The title is my reaction.

  1. I find it interesting that Ahmadinejad instantly identified his country with the enemy in the movie. We are truly through the looking glass when a nutjob like him can see that but so many in this country cannot (the debate over who the Spartans are supposed to represent is REDONKULOUS).

  2. Lewd,
You would presuppose that most in America are reasonable, however, that is not the case.

You and I are exempt from that statement đŸ™‚

  4. Wow. Thanks for sharing that; I needed a good laugh today.

I guess I just don’t understand how you go from Sparta to a metaphor for another place. It’s not like the Battle of Thermopylae did not exist; would the Battle of Marathon also be anti-Persian?

  5. Well, I’ve always admired the Spartans, who are actually pretty interesting characters.

I know that your site deals with feminism, and from a historical perspective, it can be very persuasively argued that the taciturn Spartans were much more progressive towards females than their enlightened Athenian counterparts.

  6. Well, I’ve heard 300 compared to Bush’s “war of terror” (as Borat calls it) in Iraq. You can compare anything to anything. I believe that 300 is a metaphor for high school, the Spartans being the students. See?
It’s all about personal experience on how you see things.
