Murtha: Calls for Impeachment

The Three Jackasses of the Week: L/R Rep Murtha, Sen. Reid, Mr. George Tenet

From ThePolitico.com

Inspired by a post on Wake Up America:

Rep. John P. Murtha (D-Pa.) said Sunday that Democrats in Congress could consider impeachment as a way to pressure President Bush on his handling of the war in Iraq.

“What I’m saying, there’s four ways to influence a president. And one of them’s impeachment,” Murtha, chairman of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee, said on CBS’ Face the Nation.

Impeachment as a political tool. Hmm, that sounds Constitutional.

Murtha also expressed doubt that Congress and the Bush administration would be able to work out a compromise soon in negotiations on the $124 billion war spending bill. Congress’ emergency funding measure contains a timetable for the withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from Iraq.

“They say we’re willing to compromise, and then we don’t get any compromise,” said Murtha. “We’ve already compromised. And we need to make this president understand, Mr. President, the public has spoken.”

So, the remedy is to impeach. What a blowhard.

“If he vetoes this bill, he’s cut off the money. But obviously, we’re going to pass another bill,” Murtha said. “It’s going to have some stringent requirements. … I’d like to look at this again in two months.”

It’s always so refreshing when political football is the game in town while there are troops in combat. You know, it’s a sad thing when a HAWK like myself would tell his son that going in the Armed Services is a waste of time. Look at how highly esteemed your Congress feels about you and your mission. I’m not saying that the Administration gets carte blanche on the handling of Iraq, but claims by other prominent Dems that they will be gaining lots more Congressional and Senate seats due to Iraq comes across clearly as politics in national defense. These are people that are elected by the citizens of this country. Another case of getting the government that is deserved.

I usually “try hard” to refrain from over the top statements, but this one deserves special treatment. So, whatever happened to the HIGH CRIMES and FELONIES requirement needed for impeachment? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not currently enamored over the current Administration, and I voted for the man twice and actively campaigned for him in ’04, but there’s a big difference between being unhappy and the HIGH CRIMES and FELONIES required by that pesky docuement called the US Constitution. It is also fair to add that Clinton’s impeachment was just as likely politically motivated, although he did actually perjure himself, but I’m not sure that quite reaches the High Crimes Constitutional muster. This idea is more nefarious than that impeachment and is worse than the impeachment of Andrew Johnson, whose reprehensible policies, don’t pass Constitutional mandates given the light of history. History is filled with jackasses, and Rep. Murtha is just the latest on that long list.

You know, while I’m at it, I think I’m going to add two others to my momentary lapse of reason, which is pure sanity compared to Asshole of the Week Rep. Murtha. I’m going to add, albeit a week or two late, Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid for his “The War is Lost” comments. You get two thumbs up, and guess where you can put them Senator; think REALLY hard about it.

For the third nominee I was going to pass, but after some thought I felt that George Tenet’s self serving polemic on 60 Minutes needs to be brought into light.

So there you have the three Jackasses of the Week.

  2. Well, I am not thrilled with many of the Administration’s moves, but they aren’t near high crimes. This grandstanding is unseemly.
